SUMMARY:DDP Level One Training\, Worcestershire\, England
DESCRIPTION:This is an introductory 4-day course on Dyadic Developmental Practice\, Psychotherapy and Parenting\, an intervention model developed by Dan Hughes\, Clinical Psychologist\, USA. \nThis approach assists therapists and professionals to understand and effectively support children\, young people and their families. In this model\, theory and research in the areas of developmental trauma\, attachment theory\, intersubjectivity and child development are integrated to produce a therapeutic approach used for relationship development and trauma resolution. \nDDP recognises the vital role which adoptive parents\, foster carers and residential workers play as primary attachment figures in the recovery of traumatised\, attachment-resistant children. \nThe principles and interventions are presented through formal presentations\, discussion\, videotape of sessions\, role-play\, and hand outs. \nWho is it For? \nThe training is relevant and open to therapists and practitioners who have experience in working with children and young people with trauma-attachment problems and their foster\, adoptive or birth families. \nRequired reading prior to attending the training: \nHealing Relational Trauma Workbook\, Dan Hughes & Kim S. Golding \nHealing Relational Trauma with Attachment-Focused Interventions\, Dan Hughes\, Kim S. Golding\, Julie Hudson \nLunch and refreshments are included. \nFor more information or to book your place\, please contact us using the details below. \nContact: Chris Barrett at chris@kimsgolding.co.uk or Bonita Fradd at bonita.fradd@btinternet.com or 077 87436163 \nLunch and refreshments are included. \nWe are able to offer 3 tickets at an alternative ticket price that we hope will encourage individuals who self-identify as belonging to an under-represented section of our UK and Ireland community. This might include LGBTQ+\, Global Majority\, Physical disability / sensitivity\, Neurodivergence\, Low income\, Adult Adoptees\, and individuals that might identify as belonging within the intersections of groups that are underserved\, for example. SUMMARY:Working with families impacted by relational trauma
DESCRIPTION:The DDP model (Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy\, Parenting and Practice) is a multi-layered intervention for care-experienced children\, their families and supporting practitioners. Developed by Dan Hughes\, DDP is based on theories of Attachment and Intersubjectivity and informed by neuroscience. DDP interventions focus on building intersubjective relationships from within which healing can occur. This allows the child to experience increased attachment security. Children who have experienced relational trauma\, attachment disruptions and loss\, and multiple moves will struggle to trust in self or others. \nWithin the webinar\, I will reflect on how therapy and parent support guided by the DDP model can help children to move from mistrust to trust\, transforming their sense of who they are and the stories they hold about what has happened to them. We are aware that DDP is a Western model based on Western psychological understanding. The webinar will consider the importance of understanding cultural differences and adapting interventions within the context of the culture\, identity and experience of the families. \n‘Traumatic events strike against our minds and hearts and create a story that is fragmented\, with gaps\, and is distorted by strong emotions from which the child shrinks and hides. These stories are rigid\, with meanings given to the child by the one abusing them. From these jagged stories of shame and terror that arose from relational trauma\, DDP is creating stories of connection\, strength and resilience.’ (Dan Hughes\, 2019) \nDDP builds safety\, connection and resilience for the children\, the families and the practitioners supporting them. \nBook now

SUMMARY:Healing Childhood Trauma exploring DDP through illustrations and stories with Kim Golding
DESCRIPTION:Date has changed to 4 February. \nThis seminar and book launch offers you an opportunity to explore Kim’s latest book: ‘The DDP guide to healing childhood trauma. A visual and creative companion for parents and practitioners’ with illustrations by Juliet Young. This will be published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers in January 2026 \nThis book is light on text and full of stories and illustrations to increase understanding of Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy\, Parenting and Practice. It is written in short sections for you to dip in and out of as needed. This book will be helpful for parents\, carers\, students and practitioners supporting children who’ve experienced relational trauma. \nChildren living away from their birth family following developmentally traumatizing experience struggle to feel safe within social connections\, especially with parents. Within this seminar Kim will draw on the book to explore the importance of social connection. She will discuss DDP (Dyadic Developmental Practice and Parenting) as a useful model for helping children to feel safe and open to the influences of parents. The challenges of parenting in this way will be considered alongside the importance of ongoing support for the parents. Throughout Kim will read some of the stories she has created especially for this book. \nObjectives and outcomes from the course\nThe learning objectives of the Seminar are: \n\nExplore the importance of social connection.\nConsider the challenges of parenting the DDP way and importance for ongoing support.\nDiscuss DDP (Dyadic Developmental Practice and Parenting) as a useful model for helping children to feel safe and open to the influences of parents.\nTheoretical and practical considerations\nOpportunity for you to purchase a discounted SIGNED copy of the book ‘The DDP guide to healing childhood trauma. A visual and creative companion for parents and practitioners’\n\nAnd as a special bonus:\nKim will also read extracts from ‘A TINY SPARK OF HOPE. Healing Childhood Trauma in Adulthood’\nKim S. Golding and Alexia Jones \n‘I could not ignore the tiny spark of hope that whispered to me that there might be someone with whom I could be vulnerable and real\, and that this time they might just not let me down…’ \nI knew Alexia as a child\, growing up in foster care following early childhood trauma. She was not able to engage in DDP therapy\, her mistrust in adults was high and her defences were strong. We met a few times\, and she knew that I was supporting her foster placement. \nWe plant many seeds when supporting children and their families\, and we don’t always know which one’s will flourish. As an adult Alexia\, tired of her defences and wanting to discover her authentic self\, sought me out. This began a three-year therapy journey\, culminating in writing ‘A tiny spark of hope’ together. \nIf you want to learn more about a child’s experience of foster care and the building of multiple defences to survive the trauma and loss that has been experienced this book is for you. \nIf you want to explore the way that a relational therapy informed by the DDP principles can help an adult to understand and move away from defences laid down from early in life this book is for you. \nIf you want to understand the authentic self and how to rediscover it when it has been masked by fragmented parts holding a range of defences this book is for you. \nWho should attend\nThis day is open to anyone wishing to attend who is working with children and young people. \nFor more information or to book your place\, please contact Inspire Me Events using the details below.
